Subject: [members] Your XML Consortia and Standards Participation
OASIS Members: In an effort to identify overlap and opportunities for convergence, OASIS is working to compile a list of consortia and standards bodies to which our members belong. If you participate in XML-based standards efforts outside of OASIS--whether through international organizations or small vendor groups, cross-industry bodies or specialized vertical market organizations--please let us know. Specifically, we'd like to use this information to: *invite representatives to the Interoperability Summit (www.omg.org/interop), inter-consortia meetings aimed at identifying common ground and coordinating development of electronic business specifications; *ensure that independent standards efforts are aware of the option and benefit greater participation, less overlap and greater convergence of continuing their development within OASIS; * explore other avenues of consortia cooperation, including joint or collaborative development and improved liaison relationships between OASIS TCs and the working groups of other organizations. As you know, many varied industry groups have migrated their work to OASIS--with great results. In the security space, AuthXML and S2ML combined their efforts to produce one universally accepted standard, SAML. In Web services, independent efforts from WSUI.Org and WSXL from IBM have joined together to advance the WSCM spec. BTP for business transactions was begun by BEA Systems and migrated to OASIS for wider industry participation and adoption. XML Schema languages, TREX and RELAX combined their work into RELAX NG at OASIS. The new OASIS Provisioning Services TC expects to consider contributions from the XRPM Working Group, the ADpr Initiative and developers of ITML. We realize it is difficult for most organizations to fund participation in all the relevant standards work that's happening. By pursuing convergence and cooperative relationships, we hope to provide you with the opportunity to contribute to the broadest possible range of significant work through your membership in OASIS. If you are involved in other standards efforts, please let us know which ones are important to you. If you can recommend standards initiatives that you think would benefit by an association with OASIS, we welcome your suggestions.
