1.2 ACCEPTANCE OF PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES

It was pointed out that the date of the 2009-09-23 call is incorrect in the second line of the minutes from that call:
<http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/oic/200909/msg00030.html>
It was agreed that the correction would be noted in a comment on the document details for the approved minutes <http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/document.php?document_id=34696&wg_abbrev=oic>.
With that agreement, the minutes were approved without objection.

1.3 ACCEPTANCE OF TODAY'S AGENDA. The agenda was approved without objection:

2. STATUS OF ACTION ITEMS

#0001 OpenDocument Fellowship/Intel Contact. There is no word back.

#0015 Template Scenario: Still no progress while #0032 is incomplete.

#0026 Test Scenarios - Patrick knew of no progress to report.
#0027 Test Scenarios - Also no known progress.

#0031 UOF-ODF. No change since the last meeting.

#0032 Wiki 1.6 Upgrade Repairs. Minor progress; more repairs needed.

#0033 End-User Best Practices for Document Portability. Rob is proposing something about this for the plugfest: End-User practices that have the greatest impact, and then what can implementations do to encourage those best practices. Bart mentions that the people who did the ODF converters have some template experiences. Members are invited to review and add to the material at <http://wiki.oasis-open.org/oic/EndUser>

#0034 Interop Demo Videos. Louis reported that Marino Marcich of the ODF Alliance is doing something along these lines already, using virtual machines to demonstrate heterogeneous implementations on the same computer. Louis hopes to join forces.

#0035 Interop Fest at FOSDEM 2010. Bart has not contacted anyone yet, and the Call for Papers/Presentations is not out yet. Louis said that people from OO.o are shaping up their plans, so they will have some developers and support at FOSDEM. Jurgen Schmidt (sp?) is the OO.o contact. Bart talks about the broad scope of FOSDEM and recommends that the web site be checked-out:
<http://www.fosdem.org/2010/>

3. ODF 1.1 INTEROPERABILITY PROFILES
<http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/document.php?document_id=34166>

Bart described the idea of adding conformance clauses to ODF (in the profile) and getting practices and clarifications out there faster than the standard cycle.
 - Got feedback on the preview image and such.
 - Also on differences on passwords and password-protecting documents. Discussion on password practices and whether there should be a minimum required length on the password.
 - Discussion of what happens when receiving a non-interoperable ODF document because the consumer implementation can't handle/accept the password used by the producer application.
 - Ideas for transition from 1.2 back into 1.1 implementations, etc., into profiles, etc.
 - Interesting opportunity for vendors and having versions that support 1.1 and making interim versions that the 1.1 support is also narrowed to be upward to 1.2.

Bart envisions this document being updated quite frequently, etc., much more rapidly than the ODF specification update process.

We are asked to look at the document now; it is small but it is a start.
 - Discussion about conformance language for the interop profile document and about applications that are targets for the individual profiles.
 - We must have confidence that an item is appropriate and forwards interoperability
 - It was wondered whether there should be test assertions that go with these.

Bart wants to make an e-Ballot for this as a committee draft.
Bart proposes that the odt be authoritative.

4. UPDATE ON ODF PLUGFEST IN ORVIETO, ITALY
<http://plugtest.opendocsociety.org/doku.php?id=plugfests:200911_orvieto:info#program>

Bart reports invitations have been sent, it is shaping up.

Known attendees include Oracle, Microsoft, Dialogica, KOffice, OO.o, OpenDocSociety, OpenForumEurope.

Still looking for scenarios, Mingfei may do some accessibility, Rob on OpenFormula/Formulas, Bart on change-tracking, etc. Microsoft (Doug Mahugh) is also offering something on mapping legacy formats to ODF.

Please add more scenarios if you have any ready.

5. ROUNDTABLE

There was discussion of activity at ISO/IEC JTC1 SC34 on WG5 on document interoperability and WG6 on ODF Maintenance. We could appoint liaisons to those committees. The Char of WG5 is interested in contact with the OIC TC. Svante is going to participate as a member of the DIN SC34 shadow. The WGs meet in Paris the first week of December.

Louis is contacting Corel to see if WordPerfect will have software available for testing and also participate in the plugfest with their ODF support.

6. FUTURE MEETING PLANNING

The next meeting is 2009-10-21.

There is no meeting on 2009-11-04 because of the conflict with the Orvieto plugfest and the OO.o 2009 Conference.

Respectfully submitted,

 Dennis E. Hamilton
