Subject: OIC TC 2012-10-31 Notes
IMPORTANT: The 2012-10-31 Meeting Teleconference failed to achieve a quorum as a meeting of the OASIS OIC TC. The following note accounts for attendance (which applies regardless) and then provides notes from the informal discussion that was held among those in attendance. OIC COORDINATION CALL Date: Wednesday 31 October 2012 Time: 13:30 - 14:25 UT 1. LOGISTICS The chat room: http://webconf.soaphub.org/conf/room/oic (doesn't count for attendance) The call-in numbers: https://www.teleconference.att.com/servlet/glbAccess?process=1&accessCode=84367726&accessNumber=2158616239 Meeting agenda also provides the pass codes and the commonly-used call-in numbers https://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/oic/201210/msg00004.html The action items (log-in required): http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/oic/members/action_items.php 1.1 ROLL CALL AND QUORUM CHECK During the Quorum Check, Andreas asks Bart which other OIC TC Members have Voting Member status. Bart replies that John and Louis are also Voting Members, but notes that he didn't update the TC roster correctly. (Louis was listed as non-Voting Member). This will be corrected. The 2/4 voting members present did not satisfy the 3/4 quorum requirement for start of the meeting. MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE * Bart Hanssens, Fedict (Chair) * Andreas Guelzow, Individual Chris Rae, Microsoft [* = Voting Member at start of meeting (2) + = becoming Voting Member at conclusion of meeting (0) = = Persistent Non-Voting Member (0)] MEMBERS ABSENT Charles Schulz, Ars Aperta Peter Junge, Beijing Sursen International Alex Wang, Beijing Sursen International Jeremy Allison, Google Inc. Chris wants to discuss ODF 1.2's mandatory manifest:version attribute 2. STATUS OF ACTION ITEMS #0015 Template Scenarios. No report #0041 Battery of ODF 1.2 Assessment Documents. No report #0044 Split up Advisory 00002. No report #0046 Update Advisory 00007. No report #0047 Confirmation of Advisory 00008 test documents. In progress 3. DELIVERABLES / TEST CASES 3.1 Second "State of Interoperability" Report https://wiki.oasis-open.org/oic/The_State_of_ODF_Interoperability_2012 John has added additional comments to the wiki page (application-defined properties, database fields, shapes, text properties) Bart suggests that he creates a draft version of the report, unless someone else volunteers. This draft should be a document that can be stored in the OASIS TC document repository (wiki pages are not accepted by OASIS as formal TC deliverables) Test files to support the claims / conclusions of the report are of course welcome. 3.2 Result of the e-ballot on Advisory 00008 The Advisory was approved by 3 Voting Members but Bart notes that Louis didn't get the chance to vote (because his status on the roster was incorrect). The e-ballot is an informal one, but should be reopened nevertheless. 3.3 Other Interop Advisories * Andreas has sent a mail to the OIC TC mailing list about Advisory 5 (line-style-through attribute) https://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/oic/email/archives/201210/msg00005.html He explains that the Advisory isn't clear about the expected behavior of the Consumer. Andreas also notes that the ODF 1.2 specification isn't entirely clear either, even though ODF 1.2 has more info on this topic than the ODF 1.1 specification. Bart will check the content and the test files of the Advisory. Also, the ODF 1.2 specification (section 20.366) is to be verified. * Chris asks if the OIC TC is the place to discuss the impact of the manifest:version attribute. This attribute is mandatory for ODF 1.2 documents, and it is being discussed in the ODF TC. https://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/OFFICE-3740 Chris explains that some ODF 1.1 implementations display a warning when this attribute is present (even when the ODF 1.2 document only contains ODF 1.1 features) Andreas says that some other implementations will open any document that resembles ODF. Bart suggests to continue the discussion within the ODF TC, to avoid duplication of effort. He will nevertheless send a mail to the OIC TC list to gather feedback from the other Members. 4. FEEDBACK FROM THE ODF PLUGFEST (BERLIN) Bart gives a short overview of the ODF Plugfest that took place in Berlin, on October 17th and 18 As usual, several product updates were given and test scenarios were performed. The presentations can be found on the ODF Plugfest Wiki. http://plugfest.opendocsociety.org/doku.php?id=plugfests:201210_berlin:info 4.1 ODF Auto Test Tool Jos van den Oever has created a java-based open source tool that can be used to automate ODF testing. It allows one to write simple XML-snippets that will be injected in an ODF document, which in turn will be automatically opened and re-saved in several (locally installed) ODF implementations. In addition, PDF and/or PNG renderings can be saved, and some XML-level verification can be performed. http://plugfest.opendocsociety.org/lib/exe/fetch.php?media=plugfests:201210_berlin:odfautotests.odp 4.2 Other presentations and tests * Bart highlights the Fraunhofer FOKUS presentation on Document Profiling. http://plugfest.opendocsociety.org/lib/exe/fetch.php?media=plugfests:201210_berlin:document_profiling_-_berlin_2012_conference.pdf * A few interesting scenarios were performed, including "Shapes in presentations" and "nroot on negative radicands". http://plugfest.opendocsociety.org/doku.php?id=scenarios:20121018:presentationshape http://plugfest.opendocsociety.org/doku.php?id=scenarios:20121018:nroot_on_negative_radicand Rob has sent a comment to the ODF plugfest mailing list on the latter scenario https://open.nlnet.nl/pipermail/plugtest/2012-October/000639.html 5. ROUND TABLE * Bart mentions that the upcoming Apache Conference (November, also in Germany) has an OpenOffice track, but he has no info on ODF presentations. * Chris nor Andreas have no further comments. 6. FUTURE MEETING PLANNING The next call will be on November 14th, 14:30 UTC DST will not be in effect anymore, but the starting time in North-America remains the same.
