Instead of building in a particular annotation attribute, couldn't an implementation of type-assigment simply provide to the application, for each instance attribute or element, all the annotations on the attribute or element pattern in the schema that matched that instance attribute or element? One simple way to do this would be to provide the DOM element node for the attribute or element pattern. James
