Subject: RE: XML.ORG's new look

As a temporary clean-up, it's great. Good work.

Subject: XML.ORG's new look

Hello Everyone:
Today we launched the new-look XML.ORG. Next time you log on to the
site, you'll notice some obvious graphical changes, as well as some
improved navigation and categorization of the ever-growing content on the
site. The new format should allow you to access information more easily
(without lots of scrolling and reading), and frees up the home page for
valuable, timely content. Everything that was on the old site has been
transferred, for the time being, to the new site.

The new navigable categories on the site are:
* ABOUT XML.ORG (which gives an introduction to the site, its purpose and
its goals, as well as important membership information)
* NEW & NEWS (which contains all the press releases and news that were
formerly housed on the home page, as well as "archives" of recent Robin
Cover's What's New material, and a placeholder for a Breaking News
section, to come soon)
* XML CATALOG (the list of organizations producing XML specifications)
* XML RESOURCES (bigger, better version of the old Resources page)
* SUBMIT XML SCHEMAS (which links to the former "Submit XML Resources"
page; I thought "schemas" was slightly more descriptive and less
confusing than "resources", which is used in another capacity on the
site)
* GET INVOLVED (information about XML.ORG sponsorship, contributing work
to XML.ORG, etc.)
*ABOUT OASIS (brief info about the consortium, and links to more detailed
membership information)

This "redesign" is one small step toward a complete overhaul of the web
site; Laura Walker and I are in the midst of reviewing potential site
programming firms (and should have a decision within the next 2 weeks)
for a redevelopment and re-architecture project, which should be ready in
time to coincide with "final" work on the Registry & Repository.

In my opinion, we're making good (albeit slow) process toward a more
substantial and usable resource. I welcome feedback and comments, and
welcome ideas for new features for the site. Though I realize no one
redesign can meet everyone's expectations, I hope you like the new look
and view it as a precursor to a fully-functional XML.ORG portal and
Reg/Rep.

Regards,
-craig
