During the past weeks a major topic on the conference calls has been the
necessity for a name change. The goal is to more clearly describe what the
specification does and to prevent the previous misinterpretations which arose
from the combination of the words "profile", "customer" and "exchange".
Following are two proposed name changes. These suggestions are a result of
a fairly complicated email thread. Tom Edwards has been very instrumental in
this process. I'd also like to thank Con O'Connell and Allen Wyke.

There has also been some conversation about including the word "Privacy" in
the expanded description but there are two drawbacks to this approach.
First, while the spec makes it possible to carry privacy information, there is
no enforcement currently included in the spec. although there has been
discussion about moving forward in that direction. Second, just the word privacy
may serve as a red flag to those who react first and read never.
To truly prove to the world that the specification encourages the
protection of privacy rather than the infringement of it we need an
interoperability demo. This is now again a hot topic and there will be more
email and discussion in the near future.
But first we have to agree on a name change. Please send your comments and
votes either to the email group or directly to me at linda@laburman.com. The
final outcome - and the comments -- will be read on the conference call on Oct.
16. It would be excellent if you could join in on that call.
best regards
Linda Burman
