Speaking of syntax highlighting, there's also an Emacs package for
working with compact syntax instances. It's at the same site as the
compact-syntax stylesheets -

Gives you a nice, syntax-highlighted view and seems to do a nice job of
auto-indenting as you type or do cleanup with C-M-¥
There's also a RNC syntax file for Vim -

It doesn't do syntax highlighting as well as the Emacs mode, but it's
still better a lot better than looking at in instance in monochrome.
