As I understand it, FTP is not kind to developers.  There are lots of
operating modes and it's hard to get them all right.  We have a very
limited FTP definition in the current CPA and I was never able to find
anyone who could tell me what more is needed and how to express it. See the
non-nomative notes that accompany the definition.

However, people definitely want it.  When  IBM made the initial version of
tpaML public, it did not include FTP.  I got a very, very, concerned call
from someone whose business depends on FTP.  I assured him that the next
versions would include FTP support.  I hope he is satisfied with what is in
the CPPA spec.

I'm not surprised.

On the other hand, there are companies
doing RosettaNet-level business transactions now,
and JJ Dubray reports companies doing real-world
complex collaborations.

By the way, what do the other 1/4 want to do?

And why replace the FTP system?
What's wrong with FTP?
I got some friends who just *started* using FTP!
