Subject: Re: [humanmarkup-comment] Fw: Innovative XML applications
Ranjeeth, What type of article are they currently looking for -- technical detail or broad overview? I write articles for a living (the occasional book looks good, but it hardly puts bread on the table short term) and could probably do either if I had a little better idea about who it needs to be targeted to. -- Kurt ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ranjeeth Kumar Thunga" <rkthunga@humanmarkup.org> To: "OASIS Comment" <humanmarkup-comment@lists.oasis-open.org> Sent: Wednesday, October 24, 2001 10:21 PM Subject: [humanmarkup-comment] Fw: Innovative XML applications Just wanted to share this with you guys also...they asked us to write an article for the Office of Intergovernmental Solutions...they are discussing very relevant issue to what we are doing in their next issue. Your work has a lot of potential and your presentation sparked a lot of interest. As the workshop notes are posted, I'm sure you'll receive additional inquiries. As I mentioned, I'd like to see how the markup language could contribute to reducing communication breakdowns and clarifying where "hotspot" areas as multiple parties seek to work together. Thanks also for agreeing to write an article on Human Mark up language for the Office of Intergovernmental Solutions. You can send your article directly to Sally Matthews. Due date is 11/9. Thanks! Susan -------------- --------------- -------------- Since June 1997, GSA's Office of Intergovernmental Solutions (OIS) has published a comprehensive intergovernmental solutions newsletter that identifies trends and successes in utilizing information technology around the world and provides highlights from federal, state, local and international governments, as well as industry and academia. For our next edition, we will cover how governments are using innovative XML (Extensible Markup Language) applications to deliver relevant government information and services to its citizens. The call for a citizen-centric government that transcends bureaucracy requires us to remove overlapping and duplicative processes in providing, collecting, and transacting information online. The need for interoperable systems to exchange data across bureaucratic boundaries has led many governments to implement XML-based solutions. XML is an open, platform-independent, way to structure and exchange data electronically. By sharing customized mark-up languages, governments can facilitate online exchanges of information between systems, web sites, and applications. We are soliciting articles in the following areas related to XML applications in the delivery of government information and services to constituents: · Government web sites and web applications using XML · XML in Government Portals, "Smart Portals" · XML in search technologies · Development and/or adoption of standardized XML schemas and data elements · Registry/Repositories for XML specifications, schemas, and vocabularies · Implementations of SOAP and UDDI in Government · Improved portability through XML · Centrally compiling and displaying common data from multiple databases and platforms · XML's tools for Accessibility · Examples of improved interoperability across organizations · XML and purchasing and finance operations · Miscellaneous XML in Government If you have any stories to tell about your plans to use or your current use of innovative XML applications and would like to submit an article to the newsletter, please contact Sally Matthews at sally.matthews@gsa.gov or 202-501-1476 as soon as possible. Articles should be short and concise (approximately 1,000 words) and be submitted electronically by November 9, 2001. Please include the author's name, title, organization, telephone number, and e-mail address. To check out our most recent newsletters, go to www.gsa.gov/intergov .
