I just found this PDF by Stacy Marsella from ISI
about modeling psychological theories of human
coping behaviors.  Its an interesting view of what
virtual humans have to be able to do if they're
going to interact naturally with people.

Peirceans might find something related to Peirce's
writings about intention and thirdness.  I found it
very interesting (though not very deep) as food
for thought about how to build more natural agent
programs.
