Subject: ODF Adoption TC Call - 20 November 2007 - Minutes

Hi all,

Here are my notes from last week.

Best regards,
Erwin

Attendees
=========
* Erwin Tenhumberg
* Peter Vandenabeele
* Don Harbison
* Alan Clark
* J. David Eisenberg
* Louis Suarez-Potts
* Rob Weir

A quorum was achieved.

Technical meeting at fedict
===========================
Different organizations presented about their ODF deployments.
Most organizations use the Sun plug-in.
A manual for the Sun plug-in is needed.
fedict writes some documentation for the other organizations.
One organization found a few bugs in the Sun plug-in and reported them to Sun.
The issues found were mainly related to spreadsheet documents.
The Clever Age plug-in was retested as well, but it has still a lower quality.
There is still not a lot momentum around Office 2007.
Some organizations are considering a switch to OpenOffice.org in 2008.

ODF 1.2 Collateral Plan
=======================
Erwin has to do a presentation about ODF 1.2 at a government
event in Berlin.
The presentation can be the start for more ODF 1.2 collateral.
Erwin will share the content after the event so that it can
evolve and be developed with additional outside input.

3.) ODF Logo
============
Some kind of recognizable "ODF theme" that can be used in promotional material
for ODF (e.g. collateral, websites, buttons, etc.) seems to make sense.

It's unclear what should be done regarding a logo, but OASIS' input is very
important since ODF is owned by OASIS and OASIS created t-shirts with logos
very early on.

ISV Outreach
============
Erwin suggests to create an ISV white paper, i.e. a white paper that
can help to generate interest in ODF with ISVs.

The white paper needs to mention things like:
- Importance of ODF
- Adoption of ODF
- Industry support of ODF
- Developer tools
- Resources
- etc.

Quotes from other ISVs and customers/users would be useful as well.

Lotus partners/ISVs are looking at Symphony.
IBM is talking to ISVs in the Lotus Symphony context.

Erwin takes ownership of the document, but obviously everybody is invited
to contribute.

ODF Interop Plan
================
For external input we need something like a public mailing list.
opendocument.xml.org forums could be o.k. if they allow email subscriptions.
However, "real work" like profiles require OASIS membership because content
and tools have to be developed under clear IPR rules.

Rob will check with Mary what the options are.
If the opendocument.xml.org forums do have mail support we use the forums,
otherwise we use a traditional list.

XML 2007, Boston, December
==========================
Erwin believes that Svante Schubert from Sun will do a short
presentation at XML 2007.

Rob might do a lightning talk.

ODF News / Round Table
======================
Louis was in Thailand.
ODF presence was fairly strong.
Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia etc. have strong
interest in ODF.
