Subject: Issue in OpenDocument-package-metadata-v1.2-cd1.owl
Dear Committee, I took a look at OpenDocument-package-metadata-v1.2-cd1.owl that has gone into public review and OpenDocument-metadata-v1.2-cd03.owl. I think there are a few typos in both. It has to do with the owl:DatatypeProperty and owl:ObjectProperty. They don't actually provide any semantics to a model, they are intended as a help to editing tools. They let the tools know what values a property can take. If a property is an owl:ObjectProperty then the property is a link to another resource - an object. If it is an owl:DatatypeProperty then it takes a literal - text or number. In OpenDocument-metadata-v1.2-cd03.owl the http://docs.oasis-open.org/ns/office/1.2/meta/odf#prefix and http://docs.oasis-open.org/ns/office/1.2/meta/odf#suffix are declared as owl:ObjectProperties and this conflicts with the range declaration, which is an xsd:string. The same issue occurs in OpenDocument-package-metadata-v1.2-cd1.owl with the same resources. One final thing: When ODF 1.2 documents start to get indexed by semantic search engines, you can expect them to try to get more information on the URLs these classes and properties really are. For the class 'http://docs.oasis-open.org/ns/office/1.2/meta/pkg#Document' they will do the equivalent of: wget --header='Accept: application/rdf+xml' http://docs.oasis-open.org/ns/office/1.2/meta/pkg This is how the semantic web "learns" what things mean. You should post you OWL schema on this URL in order to cooperate with the semantic web, or the OWL of ODF is pointless. Here is a tutorial describing the concepts: http://www4.wiwiss.fu-berlin.de/bizer/pub/LinkedDataTutorial/ Best regards, Søren Roug European Environment Agency
