Subject: Fwd: New Working Draft of Requirements for Japanese Text Layout available for review

Greetings!

Some reading material for the down time over the holidays. ;-)

Seriously, this is a major step forward and something I think we will all find quite useful.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Patrick

A new version of Requirements for Japanese Text Layout has just been
published at http://www.w3.org/TR/2011/WD-jlreq-20111129/

The plan is to replace the current W3C WG Note at
http://www.w3.org/TR/2009/NOTE-jlreq-20090604/ with the content of this
new Working Draft after a period of review.

This document describes requirements for general Japanese layout
realized with technologies like CSS, SVG and XSL-FO. The document is
mainly based on a standard for Japanese layout, JIS X 4051, however, it
also addresses areas which are not covered by JIS X 4051.

This second version of the document contains a significant amount of
additional information related to hanmen design, such as handling
headings, placement of illustrations and tables, handling of notes and
reference marks, etc.

Please take a look at the new version, which is available in English and
Japanese, and send any comments to public-i18n-cjk@w3.org (subscribe at
the archive http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-i18n-cjk/). Use
"[JLReq]" in the subject line of your email, followed by a brief subject.

Please send any comments before the end of December. We hope to publish
the final version of the updated NOTE early in the New Year.
