Subject: Re: [office] For discussion of OFFICE-4030 and OFFICE-3791

Hi Regina,

Let me try to just summarize my intention.

The idea is that the btlr ("rotate to left" for latin text) direction is
similar to the tbrl ("rotate to right" for latin text and/or "Japanese")
direction, just the rotation is counter-clockwise, not clockwise.

tbrl corresponds to OOXML "eaVert" and has typographical rotation, where CJK characters stay upright.

Doing similar counter-clockwise would not correspond to OOXML vert270.

As you say, the tbrl case has multiple cases where the individual glyphs
are or are not rotated. As far as I know, neither the libreoffice
implementation of the proposal nor OOXML does glyph-level rotation in
the btlr case (so that simplifies the situation).

The implementation in LibreOffice is faulty anyway, see https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=128221

Kind regards
Regina
