Open SCA Steering Committee Election now open

Open CSA Member Section Members,

The Qualified electors in your Member Section have received voting
instructions to participate in the selection of 3 candidates to join the
Open CSA Steering Committee.  Voting closes 11:45 PM EDT on 21 May 2007.

Only votes cast by the qualified Elector, designated as Voting Member in the
roster at
http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/opencsa-ms/members/roster.php
will be counted. So that all members and Observers in this member section
may know the election process, the voting instructions are as follows:

Cast your vote by email to sc-election@oasis-open.org your message should be
your ranked preference for the candidates.  Start with 1, continuing until
you have no further preference for the remaining candidates.  

1 First Candidate name
2 Second Choice Candidate name
3 Third Choice Candidate name
4 Fourth Choice candidate name

The three candidates selected will hold a seat until the 2008 SC election.

The voting will be by email, with the results tallied via the Single
Transferable Voting (STV) - Scottish Method.

STV considers your ranked preference for candidates in order to more
accurately reflect the wishes of the electorate and to eliminate "wasted"
votes.

In summary, as candidates who you voted for as a top choice win, their
excess votes (over what was needed to win) are transferred according to your
preferences. Also, as candidates who can't win are eliminated, if you had
voted for them as a top choice, your vote is "transferred" to your next
preference. The process continues until 3 candidates are elected.
