Subject: [Fwd: Re: [xml-dev] XML Schema Versioning]
Team, Here is a followup I posted to the thread Joe had posted on earlier. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [xml-dev] XML Schema Versioning Date: Fri, 05 Dec 2003 09:34:34 -0500 From: Farrukh Najmi <Farrukh.Najmi@Sun.COM> To: 'xml-dev@lists.xml.org' <xml-dev@lists.xml.org> References: <531C0947F1E0844FBDDB065F2EA5329501953CB6@u607st65.aah.co.uk> Barwell Jonathan wrote: > I am going to have to read the ebXML 2.5 Registry Services > Specification in some detail to see if this can solve some of the > issues that I have. I manage a royalty free open source project that provides an ebXML Registry implementation at: http://ebxmlrr.sourceforge.net We have over 150 users that are using the ebXML Registry and only a handful currently use it for eBusiness/B2B. The vast majority are using it as an internal Content Management solution. Another common misconception about ebXML Registry is that it is useful only at design time and not at runtime. Again the vast majority of use cases that I have seen use it at runtime just like enterprise apps used to use relational databases. A good example of runtime usage is being shown in an Epidemic Manage demo with real time Epidemic Alerts at XML 2003 next Wednesday (see signature below). Some recurring use cases for ebXML Registry we have seen are: * Web service registry * Taxonomy management * XML Schema management * UBL schema management * Vocabulary Management * User and Role management * eForms Server * eGovernment registry * eBusiness Process registry * Partner profile registry * Medical content repository * Standards registry So, despite its the *eb* in its name, and despite its roots, ebXML Registry is really much more like a database for web services that can be used in B2B or internal use cases. -- Regards, Farrukh |========================================================================| | | | Going to XML 2003, Dec 8-12, Philadelphia PA? | | | | Come see a very cool presentation and demo: | | "Epidemic Management Using OASIS ebXML, UBL and XACML Standards | | | | When: Wednesday, December 10 / 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM | | | | Details at: | | http://www.xmlconference.org/xmlusa/2003/interopdemos_oasis.asp#4 | | | |========================================================================| ----------------------------------------------------------------- The xml-dev list is sponsored by XML.org <http://www.xml.org>, an initiative of OASIS <http://www.oasis-open.org> The list archives are at http://lists.xml.org/archives/xml-dev/ To subscribe or unsubscribe from this list use the subscription manager: <http://lists.xml.org/ob/adm.pl> -- Regards, Farrukh |========================================================================| | | | Going to XML 2003, Dec 8-12, Philadelphia PA? | | | | Come see a very cool presentation and demo: | | "Epidemic Management Using OASIS ebXML, UBL and XACML Standards | | | | When: Wednesday, December 10 / 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM | | | | Details at: | | http://www.xmlconference.org/xmlusa/2003/interopdemos_oasis.asp#4 | | | |========================================================================|
