How do you feel about Ashley's suggestion that that be a client side
problem?

Details of this would be very useful.  It means they are extracting metadata
from the SRU record and using it to formulate an OpenURL, exactly as
proposed in
http://www.loc.gov/standards/sru/june2007meeting-report.html#openurl (second
use case: SRU to OpenURL).
