I think correcting and updating country and language could be done either way, provided it is done quickly. It could make sense to extend the charter of PubSubj to encompass these two, on the grounds that they already have some kind of semi-official existence and are themselves establishing a precedent for other sets of published subjects. This really is the job of PubSubj, so by taking in country and language, the existing TC would be neutralising a possible competitor! Including country and language in the work of PubSubj would also make sense from the point of view that PubSubj needs examples to use during its discussions and to illustrate the results it arrives at. Country and language would be eminently suitable for this purpose, since they are very generic and generally useful across a very wide range of topic maps. Of course, this means modifying the existing charter, but that is no more work than creating a new one for a new TC. More important than the form the work should take is that we agree on the nature of the work. I suggest therefore that this committee take the time to discuss the "statement of purpose" for the work on country and language. *If* we agree on what's needed, we can probably also agree on how to go about doing it. Lars Marius, why don't you post your draft?
