Subject: [xtm-wg] Open Source Ontology project
Hello, Guy Lukes (lukesg@frb.gov) and I (bryan@cog-tech.com) are interested in developing an extensible ontology / topic map to describe open source projects. Eventually we see this as a knowledge management tool to support the search for, and coordination, of expertise and information on open source projects. In particular I would like to solicit the advice of the current technology developers and users. We are looking for: (a) software that we can use to store and serve topic maps. (b) a web interface that we can expose so that people can browse the resulting topic map. (c) a web interface that we can expose so that people can populate a topic map with instances (e.g., describing the projects that they know). This transforms the description of the open source projects itself into an open source project. (d) eventually, exposing the topic map ontology for the description of open source projects so that it can be extended by knowledgable parties in a community process. Ideally the different communities would each come together and identify and extension of the basic project description ontology that was suited to that class of project (e.g., extensions to cope with the description of databases, inference engines, etc.) What is the state of the art here? Ideally this project would be developed with open source software, but we would be willing to conduct the project using closed software as well (any offers?). I might suggest that this project, if successful, would have a fairly high profile and could create some practical interest in topic maps within a broad and informed community. -bryan thompson bryan@cog-tech.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------ IT Professionals: Match your unique skills with the best IT projects at http://click.egroups.com/1/3381/3/_/337252/_/961182072/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To Post a message, send it to: xtm-wg@eGroups.com To Unsubscribe, send a blank message to: xtm-wg-unsubscribe@eGroups.com
