I was among those, but changed my mind after this problem has been fully
addressed here lately, in the following form.

1. If you want some element to get occurrences and names, then it *has* to
be a topic.
2. If this element has been created as an association and you want to force
names and occurrences on it,
then create a topic with this association as subject.
3. Put the names and occurrences on this new topic.

The way to treat the following example : [Copernic stated "Earth is a
planet of Sun"] , a "statement on a statement"
has already been exposed here :

1. Make an association linking topics "Earth" "Sun" and "planet" (Earth is
a planet of Sun)
2. Make a topic this association is subject of - call it e.g.
"Heliocentrism" if you really want a name for it
3. Make an association linking topics "Copernic" and "Heliocentrism"

If you don't make it that way, you'll be forced into considering an
association being a member of an association !
And that should be *very* messy - and I think *verboten*
