Question about example

I'm not sure I understand the intent of the example

xri:(mailto:john.doe@example.com)/(+email.address)

It seems to me that something like

xri:@foo/(mailto:john.doe@example.com)/(+email.address)

would be more intuitively meaningful. In other words, "I'd like the email
address in @foo terms of the guy I know as john.doe@example.com. Similar to
the hypothetical

(mailto:john.doe@example.com)@foo.com
