Subject: RE: HM.interactions: initial questions

Hello Everyone,

Ranjeeth posed some very interesting questions about HM interactions. (See: http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/humanmarkup-comment/200109/msg00008.html) I will take a stab at the following question:

<Ranjeeth> How to use Web Services to transport HumanML information? </Ranjeeth>

HumanMarkup was never meant to be merely a set of specifications, schemas, or DTDs. For HumanMarkup to do anything substantive it must be a vibrant living set of technologies that provide real world solutions for Internet mediated human communications.

Web Services have received much attention among the XML community since the Web can now take advantage new technologies that allow dynamic interchange, programmatic manipulation, and modular interaction of diverse but related parts.

I believe that HumanMarkup can bring a new perspective for the Web Services community. Of course, market forces will dictate that initial interest and corporate research within the Web Services provider community that will seek to provide solutions based upon reasonable business models. HumanMarkup can provide a clear benefit for any communication or interactive environment whereby clarifications and translations of any messages or data may be necessary. In other words, HumanMarkup is a modular service that can be provided to any Web Service that would require the benefits of HumanMarkup technologies.

Now as for the transportation of HumanML information, the natural focus should be SOAP. As more information becomes XML encoded, the "smart mailman" of the Web Service communications world will be SOAP. Any message, query, or piece of data can be wrapped within the SOAP envelope and sent to a HumanMarkup schema, database, or some other HM resource for clarification. The possible applications from HumanMarkup are legion.

As HumanMarkup will provide informational resources based within schemas and other technologies, the issue becomes how can one make use of the data? In the emerging semantic web, information by itself is simply not enough. Context, inference, clarification, elucidation, and other value adding methods will allow any information to become enriched by HumanML. From internal human states and intentions, to cultural, historical, religious, or economic context, HumanMarkup will be able to add serious value to communications within the semantic web.

In any communications environment where information of any sort will be exchanged, HumanML should be able to harness open source technologies that are readily available to all. Since SOAP is essentially XML and HTTP, what else can be considered more useable for the transportation of HumanML data?

Cordially,

Joe Norris
