Subject: Re: [pki-survey] Survey Report Draft 0.2

One possible issue just occurred to me: copyright.
I'm not sure that we have the right to reproduce the
text of respondents' emails and other textual comments.
We never asked for such permission and it would probably
be impossible to get such permission now (since we don't
have email addresses for many of the respondents).

The text of these comments only appears in Appendices.
I suggest that we remove the appendices. This won't
diminish the main message of the report. It will make
the report a bit less "spicy", but also a bit shorter
(which is good). We already report on the content of
these comments in the body of the report.

What do others think? Any objections to removing those
comments?

Thanks,

Steve

P.S. All the rest of the text in the report was written
by PKI TC members. It falls under the OASIS IPR Policy,
which states that anyone who submits a contribution to
OASIS agrees (among other things) to "grant an unlimited
perpetual, non-exclusive, royalty-free, world-wide right
and license to OASIS under any copyrights in the contribution".

You could argue that this applies to survey responses, too.
But the respondents weren't notified of this obligation
so I don't think they could be bound by it. And many of the
comments were anonymous. If someone complained their text
had been improperly included in the report (maybe because
someone pasted it into a survey response), we could be in
a tricky spot.
