I don't quite follow here. If the user had turned change tracking off temporarily then the changes would not be appended. SO wouldn't it be acceptable for an application only to work in an change-tracking-disabled mode and so not to append those changes (provided it ensures the file content is compatible with the tracked changes.) > Andreas -- Andreas J.
