It seems to me that the use example Florian gave in
http://www.oasis-open.org/archives/office/200710/msg00072.html
is quite persuasive.

In any case I do not recall any sizable survey of ODF customers with
respect to the lots of (in my opinion) nonsense already included in teh
specification.
