Subject: RE: [oic] Confused about the purpose of the Interop Profile
Hello Cherie, the interop profile is on the agenda, so we can discuss it during the call on Wednesday (including renaming / refocusing and/or other suggestions) Best regards Bart ________________________________________ From: Cherie Ekholm [cheriee@exchange.microsoft.com] Sent: Monday, March 22, 2010 7:16 PM To: Hanssens Bart; robert_weir@us.ibm.com; oic@lists.oasis-open.org Subject: RE: [oic] Confused about the purpose of the Interop Profile Renaming it is one thing. However, simply changing the name doesn't refocus the intent of the document, which currently still targets the whole of ODF. Is refocusing the document something that we'll be discussing then at Wednesday's meeting? Meanwhile we can discuss a better name for it. I like Rob's suggestion for renaming / focusing it on desktop productivity tools. That would fit perfectly in the charter. I think it would be better if we named this profile, "ODF Interoperability Profile for Desktop Personal Productivity Applications", which unambiguously places it in scope of the horizontal domain profiles mentioned in #5 of the Scope statement. > Interoperability is great. The entirety of the market, by > definition, is neither of those. I agree. Thus the suggestion to focus on the specific horizontal domain of desktop personal productivity applications for this profile. It doesn't make sense to have a single interop profile deal with the entire market, since the needs of desktop PPAs differs from mobile apps which differs from web-based editors.
